Building Inspections

Building Inspections is comprised of 2 building officials, Andy Fecht and Gary Dunnavant. The building officials are dedicated to serving the general public in the area of life safety matters pertaining to new construction, remodeling, repairs, additions and demolition of industrial, commercial and residential buildings within the city limits of Mexico.

The building officials are responsible for the interpretation and enforcement of adopted city codes and dedicated to providing fair, accurate and consistent information to all concerned. This includes the review and issuance of building permits and inspection of construction to ensure compliance with applicable building codes and municipal regulations.

Building Permit Information


  • Building permits are required for all new construction or remodeling.
  • Electrical, Plumbing and Mechanical permits are required for all new construction or remodeling.
  • Demolition permits are required for the demolition of any structure.
  • Fence permits are required to erect a fence in residential, commercial and industrially zoned districts.
  • Sign permits are required for the erection, enlarging or re-facing of a sign or supporting structure.
  • Swimming pool permits are required. Any swimming pool with a depth capacity of 24 inches or greater must have a pool permit and comply with all safety and installation requirements.
